AI visibility in Wigan
A growing share of buying research now happens inside an assistant rather than a results page. If it does not know you exist, you are not on the shortlist.
The A-side
How the machines choose
How an assistant picks which business to name
An assistant answering a question does not browse the way a person does. It retrieves a set of documents it can already reach, reads them, and constructs an answer from the parts it judges reliable enough to repeat.
That changes what optimisation means. A page that ranks tenth can still be quoted if it states the relevant fact more plainly than the page ranking first.
Three properties decide whether your page is usable. It has to be reachable, it has to be parseable without executing scripts, and it has to contain the fact as a clear statement rather than an implication.
The B-side
What the work involves
What the AI visibility work involves
- Crawler access
- Confirming your robots rules actually permit the AI crawlers you want, and that nothing at the CDN or firewall is blocking them silently. Plenty of sites block them by accident and never find out.
- Server rendered facts
- Making sure your key claims exist in the HTML rather than being assembled by JavaScript afterwards. Several retrieval systems do not run scripts at all.
- Entity clarity
- One consistent name, one consistent description, one consistent set of contact details, everywhere. Contradiction is the single most common reason a model refuses to name a business.
- Quotable structure
- Direct questions with direct answers underneath them. Prose that circles a point for a paragraph before making it is difficult to quote and usually gets skipped.
- Structured data
- Organization, Service and FAQ markup that matches the visible page exactly. Markup that disagrees with the page is worse than none.
- Dated measurement
- The same set of questions asked of the same assistants on a schedule, with the answers recorded. Without that you are guessing about your own visibility.
Chart climbers
Real figures, my own portfolio
What AI referral traffic looks like today
AI referral traffic is measurable in analytics today, in small but real volumes. This is from one of my own sites, not a client. It is shown to establish that the channel exists rather than to promise you a number.
Sector A, health and wellness SOURCED
AI assistant referral sessions
A site in my own portfolio, not a client engagement. Sector label only, no domain or brand is named. Measured in GA4 over 90 days to 19 July 2026, pulled 20 July 2026.
Results vary by sector and starting position. This is not a forecast for your business.
Sector A, health and wellness SOURCED
Google clicks per month, including the May dip
A site in my own portfolio, not a client engagement. Sector label only. May fell below April and that dip is shown, not smoothed.
July is a partial month. Pulled from Google Search Console on 20 July 2026. Results vary and nothing here is a forecast.
Total AI referral sessions across all assistants over that window: 1,434 SOURCED. ChatGPT accounts for the overwhelming majority. A single assistant is never a sufficient test.
The second chart is included deliberately. May went backwards. A site that only ever shows its good months is not showing you anything useful.
What I cannot promise
Nobody controls what a language model says. I can make your business easy to find, easy to parse and consistent enough to be safely quoted. I can measure the result on dated re-checks.
I cannot guarantee a citation. Any agency that does is describing something it has no mechanism to deliver.
Common questions
How does an AI assistant decide which business to name?
It retrieves pages it can reach and parse, then quotes the ones that state a fact plainly and appear consistent with other sources. Being nameable is mostly a matter of having the specific fact written down somewhere machine readable, and having nothing contradicting it elsewhere.
Is this just SEO with a new label on it?
It overlaps heavily but it is not identical. Traditional SEO optimises for a ranked list of ten links, whereas AI retrieval optimises for being the sentence a model can safely quote, which rewards clear factual statements far more than keyword placement.
Can I pay to appear in ChatGPT or an AI Overview?
Not for the organic citation itself. Assistants pull from the open web and from their search partners. The route in is being genuinely findable and quotable rather than buying a slot.
How do I even tell whether I am being cited?
You ask the assistants directly, in a controlled and repeatable way, and record the answers with the date. That dated record is the only honest measurement available right now. It is the first thing the Sprint produces.
Does structured data help with AI visibility?
It helps by removing ambiguity. Marking up who you are, what you sell, where you operate and how to contact you means a machine does not have to infer any of it from prose, and inference is where wrong answers come from.
Is it worth doing this now or waiting until it matters more?
The cost of doing it now is low precisely because so few competitors have. Waiting means arriving after the assistants have already settled on describing your sector using someone else. Displacing an established answer is harder than being an early one.

The Sprint is a fixed fee of £400 FIXED and produces a dated baseline across Google and four assistants, five shipped fixes, and a re-check date.
